The purchase of chips at a Brisbane casino using $40,000 in dirty money has led to a woman being charged after a five-month police investigation.
The Brisbane Times reports that police raided a home in Kelvin Grove last Monday, questioning the 45-year-old woman in front of young children and uncovering hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash.

It will be alleged the woman purchased chips at the Brisbane casino in July with $40,000 cash believed to be from the proceeds of crime.
After “suspicious transactions” at the casino, detectives executed a search warrant in Kelvin Grove on August 15, triggering a five-month inquiry.
Police said $260,000 cash was seized, along with financial documents and electronic devices.
Last Monday, she was issued with a notice to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 24, charged with one count each of money laundering and possession of tainted property.
Financial and Cyber Crime Group acting superintendent Ben Fadian said inquiries into criminal syndicate links were continuing and further charges could be laid.
“To anyone considering accepting money from an unknown or untrusted source, be it electronically by letting your bank account be used by a third party or by ‘washing’ cash received,” he said.
“Know that this is money laundering, a serious offence, that will bring you under the scrutiny of law enforcement.”

Poker players turn out in their droves for APT Brisbane
The Australian Poker Tour has hosted a successful tournament in Brisbane, months after Australia’s last poker event.
Casino Aus reported in October that APT was part of a coalition to work with the NSW government and health officials to find a way to authorise live poker again.
The group, Poker NSW, is still moving slowly but steadily toward a comprehensive plan for live poker tournaments that make players and officials feel safe.
Along the way, as officials authorised then cancelled and then reauthorize poker tournaments, the APT was caught up in it all.
In Queensland, the APT planned its Gold Coast series for the first weekend in September but had to cancel as a new wave of COVID-19 cases surfaced.
The APT had to let its Gold Coast series go to the pile of cancelled events, but was determined to host its Brisbane series in October.
Set for October 7 to 11 with 14 tournaments, the hope was for prize pools to culminate in the $450,000 range.
Eatons Hill Hotel was the location, slightly north of Brisbane.
They set it up with everything from abundant hand sanitiser, masks on sale and available for free, and overall cleanliness protocols in place.
Attendance at the event was unprecedented, with 4,555 total tournament entries, 972 unique players and about $750,000 total prize pools.
“Hosting a tournament series in these troublesome times has certainly been a challenge yet through perseverance and effort, we got there to finish off the year on a high note,” APT wrote on its website.
The opening event on October 7, a $100 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with two starting flights and one reentry allowed per flight.
Organisers hoped to garner a prize pool of $15,000, but when players lined up to compete, they more than doubled that prize pool, with $33.985 up for grabs.
Now that Sydney is behind us, our focus turns to our next event which is in Brisbane, 12-15th of September. We had a massive 3 days on the Gold Coast in February that had a guaranteed series of $225k that ended with a combined total prize pool of $497k. Then for Sydney we had a $300k guaranteed prize pool over 4 days that finished up with a massive $612k. To cater for the growing demand, over the past couple of weeks, the APT Brains Trust has been working tirelessly on the next event to come up with a great working schedule of events and also a suitable guaranteed prize pool. Over 4 days from Thursday the 12th of September to Sunday the 15th the Australian Poker Tour are pleased to announce that we will have 17 fantastic events and also wait for it….

In Sydney we then offered a $100,000 guarantee and had 1227 total entries (includes re-entries) and we cracked $180,000 in the prize pool. NOW for Brisbane we have the $150,000 Ladbrokes Main Event. With 4 flights in Brisbane this is going to be HUGE!! Each flight has 1 re-entry available to the players and for $175 its such good value.
