Anticipating that the 2020 Vega IRONMAN World Championship will take place as scheduled on October 10 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii if restrictions on public gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic are lifted, IRONMAN announced changes to slot allocations for qualifying events impacted by the coronavirus.

- IRONMAN XC World Championship Slots (Kona, Hawaii) Slot Distribution Procedures XC Age Division Slot - A minimum of one (1) IRONMAN World Championship slot will be awarded to EACH XC Age Division.
- ROAD TO KONA – Women For Tri Purpose The purpose of the Women for Tri IRONMAN® World Championship Slot 2020 is two-fold: (1) to support a female IRONMAN triathlete who embodies the spirit of Women for Tri at the 2020 IRONMAN® World Championship, and (2) to raise at least $25,000 in support of Women for.
- Analysis of Ironman Hawaii qualification times for Ironman events all over the world. A total of 41 Ironman and five Ironman 70.3 races will offer slots for the 42nd edition of the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. The races take place in 24 different countries offering a total of approximately 1920 Kona Slots.

I suspect this won’t be the final adjustment, but the standout piece is that if you are on the current waitlist as an IRONMAN Legacy Program athlete, then assuming it goes ahead, you can race in Kona this year.

Additional 2020 IRONMAN World Championship slots to be allocated to Legacy Program Athletes
IRONMAN today announced adjustments to the slot allocations for the 2020 Vega IRONMAN® World Championship based on qualifying events that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The IRONMAN World Championship qualifying window for the 2020 Vega IRONMAN World Championship has been officially extended from August 23, 2020 to August 30, 2020.
With this change, the 2020 editions of IRONMAN Canada – Penticton (August 30), IRONMAN Kazakhstan (August 23) and IRONMAN Vichy (August 23), will now offer 60 qualification slots each to the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship in addition to the qualification slots they offer for the 2021 IRONMAN World Championship.
IRONMAN races that have been postponed from an earlier date in the 2020 season and are rescheduled to take place on or before August 30, 2020 will remain in the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship qualifying season. Events that have been postponed to take place after August 30, 2020 will move to the 2021 IRONMAN World Championship qualifying season.
Additionally, the Legacy Program has been allocated additional slots for 2020, providing every eligible waitlisted Legacy athlete the ability to race in the 2020 IRONMAN World Championship.
